What is RRB?


The full form of RRB is Railway Recruitment Board. The RRB is managed by the Ministry of Railways under Railway Recruitment Control Board.

The Railway Recruitment Board was established in the year 1942 and was named as Railway Service Commission. In the year 1985, the Railway Service Commission was renamed as Railway Recruitment Board.

The Railway Recruitment Board conducts various recruitment examination for Assistant Loco Pilot, Non-technical and popular category, Group  C/Group D and other posts in departments and offices of Indian railways.

The examinations conducted under Railway Recruitment Board are:

  • RRB NTPC
  • RRB ALP
  • RRB JE
  • RRB Group D

RRB NTPC – What is RRB NTPC Full Form?

The full form of NTPC is Non- Technical Popular Categories. This exam is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board to appoint candidates as Commercial Apprentice, Goods guard, Traffic Apprentice, Traffic Assistant, Assistant Station Master, etc. all over India.

The basic educational qualification to appear for this exam is a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and for certain posts, it is 12th Std.

RRB JE – What is RRB JE Full Form?

The full form of JE is Junior Engineer.

Railways Recruitment Board conducts the RRB Junior Engineer (JE) Exam in order to recruit candidates with science and engineering backgrounds to fill in the various technical posts available in the Indian Railways.

The RRB JE 2019 Exam was conducted for the recruitment of the following posts:

  • Junior Engineer
  • Junior Engineer (IT)
  • Depot Material Superintendent (DMS)
  • Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant (CMA)

The minimum educational qualification for the RRB JE exam is a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized University.

RRB ALP – What is RRB ALP Full Form?

The full form of ALP is Assistant Loco Pilot.

Railway Recruitment Board conducts the RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Exam to recruit candidates under the Ministry of railways.

The RRB ALP exam requires has the following qualification criteria:

  • Candidates should have passed matriculation and completed course Act Apprenticeship Industrial Training Institute approved by NCVT or SCVT in the respective trade.
  • Those who have a diploma in Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Automobile Engineering recognized by the AICTE are also eligible for the exam.

The latest ALP vacancy details have not yet been released by the Railway Recruitment Board for the 2019-20 exam. Last year, the RRB ALP post had a total vacancy of 36576.


RRB Group D – What is RRB Group D Full Form?

RRB Group D exam is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board on behalf of the Railway Recruitment Cell. RRB Group D exam is conducted by RRB to recruit eligible candidates for various posts like Helper/Assistant Pointsman, Track Maintainer Grade-IV, in Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix in various departments of Indian Railways.

The RRB Group D or RRC Level 1 exam requires the following education qualification:

  • The minimum education qualification that the board expects from candidates in order to be eligible for RRB Group D examination is 10th pass (OR) ITI from institutions recognised by NCVT/SCVT (or) equivalent (OR) National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.
